Concentric versus Eccentric Reducers – Concentric reducers reduce the pipe at the center. On the side of the reducer, you can see that the smaller section forms in the middle. Eccentric reducers are those that reduce the pipe all the way to one side. Even though it’s a small change, it makes a huge difference. The concentric pipe reducer means that the pipes have matched center lines, whereas the eccentric reducer has mismatched center lines. These both affect flow. Generally, reducers are concentric. When the pipes have to stay at the same height, eccentric reducers are used. It is common to use eccentric reducers to avoid trapping air within the system, so that both liquids and air may flow together. Relative – ASTM A403 WP304 refers to fittings made from Wrought Austenitic Stainless grade A403 WP304. These are used for moderate and high-temperature pressure piping systems. A403 is an ASTM standard for pipes and fittings. It tells you what types of stainless steel have what properties. WP304 is one of them. 304 stainless steel is widely used to produce equipment and parts that need corrosion resistance, formability, and comprehensive performance. To keep its corrosion-resistant qualities, stainless steel must contain at least 18% chromium and 8% nickel. The most common stainless steel pipe fitting material is ASTM A403 WP304.
